Veterans Marathon
By Craig "Indiana" Thompson on November 12, 2017
This is a good small town race. You can pick your bib up in the morning which is a plus. Plenty of parking around so no worries there. Not a fan of doing loops but 2 loops but I survived.

small, organized

Flew into Fort Wayne, a 35 minute drive. stayed at Quality inn for $64. issue: no late checkout so consider the Super 8. Easy packet pickup. Everyone was so helpful. Long sleeve tech shirt was nice (Brooks) &perk was pair of Brookssocks. Race day bitter out with 23 degree temps (13 degree wind chill). You weren't protected on the rural plains, so dress accordingly. Course is 2 loops. First loop has the half marathoners and there were no cars on the route. Second loop: lonely &cars were in full force. well aided every 2 miles or less. advertise 1 gel stop (there were 5...you just had to be aware). Medal was small in comparison to some but was in shape of state. age group awards are a gorgous heavy limestone plaque. Worth the effort to score this award. I really enjoyed this race. Easy drive from FWA, cheap hotel and rental cars, park right at start/finish, well aided (no gel required) and best age group award ever. Thank you race director and volunteers.
