Disney Marathon

Have completed four Disney marathons. This is a race with a large number of first time runners and walkers. Proof of time is critical for coral placement so don't forget to submit your time.
Course entertainment is nearly every half mile. You do run thru all four kingdoms and see some back lot areas. Support is volunteer driven and frequent.
Plan on spending some money as Disney does know how to charge for everything.
Finishers medal is normally very nice. In true Disney fashion, they do pay attention to details.
Only down issues are cost to register. . .on the top of the fee scale. The second is the main Web site is not updated that often.
Hope this helps.

Well supported race

Okay, it’s tough getting up so early to stand in the corrals before the start, but once you get running the race is well supported with frequent water and electrolyte stops. I also appreciated the frequent medical tents. AND we got Sports beans and full sized bananas on the course.

Dopey Challenge

Overall, the race weekend was pretty good. They had support throughout most of the course. They had characters and music spread out. The course was pretty narrow in some of the areas and hard to see due to starting at 4:30. The parks were the highlight to run through. Definitely not a course to get a PR. This was my Florida marathon and it was flat.

Always a fun, Disney Event!

Better course this year except for the grueling loop around Blizzard Beach's parking lot ... but at least we're not on that interminable Osceola Parkway with little shade! Bling is always some of the best. I do miss the bigger expos of the past (not nearly as many vendors) and with the speakers' sessions with Olympian speakers would return, they were SO informative, humorous and fun. MORE than adequate water/aid stations. For ONCE, Sunday had the low temps! Spectators are always loud and encouraging. The final mile, the breezeway between EPCOT's Creations and Connections provided an echo chamber for all the cheers and it, once again, brought tears and that final energy-burst I needed. GREAT JOB AGAIN, DISNEY ... please add more vendors and speaker sessions at the Expo!!

Loved it, as part of the Dopey Challenge

Overall, I loved it. Good cheering, aid stations, med tents, and course design. My legs were dead because of Dopey, but it was worth it. All of the races the entire weekend start at 5am (at least Wave A does), so it is quite dark on the course for the first 2 hours. It's dark enough you can fall, which I did, because of something with the road. That's really the 9-star rating basis. That and the fact despite confirming my time, early waves were split with people of all abilities so the first few miles are full of zig-zagging. I think it's awesome they have all the characters on the course and in waiting, but I'm not going to be the audience that takes part. It's just not who I am; when I race, I don't stop for things. Course itself is great; running through all 4 parks, the boardwalk, resorts, behind-the-scenes, right under Magic Castle with spectators lined up, etc. It's all really cool.

Rode the roller coaster!

In all honesty, the course can be a bit boring at times. We literally ran a circle around a parking lot. There are quite a few CAST members along the way cheering you on, spectator spots that were scream tunnels, character photo ops, and a chance to ride a roller coaster. The mental pick-me-up at mile 16 to ride the Everst Expedition was what I needed after getting rained on. Course was not challenging and lots of support (almost too many opportunities for water/Powerade). I was not impressed with the online runner's guide, that really needs to be rethought out and more details added. It was expensive but checked off a challenge I've been wanting to do (The Dopey).

Not as much time running in the parks as I had hoped.

BETTER COURSE, BETTER START TIME. GREAT BLING!

As always, Disney keeps improving the medals and the course. The new start time of 5 a.m. REALLY helped avoid the heat of the day (and in my memory, with the exception of 2016, in the last 11 WDW marathons, Sunday has been the HOTTEST day in a 5-day span either side of the marathon, dangit! Too bad the rumors aren't true about Disney having a dome over the property in order to control the weather, har). The new course managed to provide MUCH more shade than that interminable run down Osceola Parkway and through Wide World of Sports. With COVID, there were fewer characters along the way, and I really miss the Speakers' Forums at the EXPO ... hopefully a return to more normal can begin for 2023.

Has pros and cons. Great course, needs less runners

Make sure you have a good proof of time, this will give you extra time out on the course. Congestion and the Galloway pace groups are the biggest draw back. Course is too narrow at points for the amount of people. The Galloway pace groups use a run-walk method, travel in wide packs...clogs the course at points. Courtesy can be lacking, 3+ across walkers, people not moving to the side to walk, just stopping in front of you. All this said...it is a good course. All four parks. If you want to ride Everest, it opens at 9am, around mile 13. 840am is a decent time, stretch, grab a beer, you'll make the 1st train and be gone. Animals are out for pictures before Animal kingdom. Between Hollywood and Epcot a VERY narrow section. Grab a drink, pretzel, Turkey leg in world showcase and finish with it in hand. Expo can be insanely busy. Medals are nice. $$$.
