St. Jude Memphis Never Disappoints

My hometown marathon never disappoints. Great crowd (22,500 runners in all races) and the weather was cold but windy. Great support is good and the race support is the very best. Flat and fast course and the route and race are well managed.

Great cause, but course and staggered start needs work

I paced this race this year and had a really challenging time collecting a pace group with the staggered start. The race organizers wouldn't allow myself and my pace partner to stand near the start line, but instead pushed us through to start (because it was a rolling start this year). Therefore, we were only able to collect a couple people who wanted to run at our pace.
Another problematic part of the race was a double loop around the park and the zoo. This double loop was fairly confusing and not great for morale in a marathon.

Well organized (other than finish area being a bit confusing), decent medal and shirt, and a race with all proceeds going to a great cause. Really can't ask for anything more.

Loved this race! The volunteers, the environment, the crowd support, the course.

This was a good race.... The start line was a party... There was a countdown jumbotron for each corral start... The announcers were great at hyping the crowd of runners... We ran a couple of loops thru the downtown area...There were a few hills but nothing really challenging... Hydration stations at every mile marker... Water and lemon line flavored NUUN... There were bands and a few Elvis Presley impersonators to take pix with... Lots of crowd support... The children cheering hyped the runners... We ran thru neighborhoods, a park/zoo, and most importantly the campus of St. Jude Hospital... There was lots of free food and drinks at the post race party and an area to take your finisher pic.

St Jude was the most inspirational and emotional race I have ever run. Running for the kids was an honor. I am a back of the packer and was so happy that the aid stations were fully staffed. The crowd support was all along the course. The volunteers were so supportive. The start and finish was very well organized.

A proud race that benefits Saint Jude and the many children and families! The course is very nice with people along the entire route! Lots of aid stations and GU o the course! This is certainly one of my favorites! They say it’s a 6hr cut off but they let you finish beyond 7hr 30 mins!

Number 42 and the best marathon course, cause and people ever!

St. Judes was wonderful...a beautiful flat course with great support from enthusiastic volunteers and locals who came out to cheer us on....Everyone demonstrated what an incredible cause we were all supporting and we had the time of our lives. For the "icing" on the cake, Memphis was a welcoming destination race. I am so glad I went.

St Jude Marathon is a must do

This is simply a wonderful race. I ran with a friend this year so i had more time to just enjoy the city. Gorgeous neighborhoods and GREAT support. People in Memphis have a sincere appreciation for the St Jude hospital and they really show it to the runners.
This was my second year. Last year i felt they did a horrible job with the corrals at the start it seemed better this year. I was standing in the street instead of on the sidewalk when the race started.
I found the food at the finish difficult to find. I know they had pizza but i didnt find it. We went out to the Lookout at Bass Pro for a meal. Which was the perfect ending to the day.

This was a nice race with good course support from the crowds cheering us on to the volunteers throughout the course. I was a St. Jude Hero and several people would yell out thanking me for being a Hero. It felt very sincere. I like the finish in the baseball stadium. I would recommend this race.

Awesome cause. Course is getting better every year. Organization was the best I've seen. Only thing to make post race better would be a way to pick up drop bags before going through post race food and drink lines and walking out of stadium. You freeze trying to eat and once you go get drop bag, you can't get back in to see others finish.

I have nothing but extremely positive things to say about the St. Jude marathon. I raised money and ran as a hero. It was a very emotional yet motivating experience. It is well organized. The course is good with the best part being that we run pass the children's hospital and get to see their beautiful faces and encouraging smiles. Great post race food. Wonderful medal and shirt. Highly recommend this race!

Very well organized race. Purposeful run. I realized how much I've taken for granted as I ran, passing children who live the daily marathon of survival. It was an honor to be there, encouraging them as they cheered curbside with big smiles. Life changing. The run was nice too. ;)

Excellent mid-sized urban marathon
By Brian K Wright on December 10, 2016

This marathon is a big fundraiser for St Jude's Children's Research Hospital. It includes a 5k, 10k, all marathon, and full marathon. The course is a mix of urban streets and residential areas. The course is generally rolling with only a few hills of note. The start is near AutoZone Park and is done in waves 3 minutes apart. There are water stops about every 1 mile to 1 1/2 miles along the course. They had water and Nuun at each top and some Gu at later stops. The finish is in the outfield of AutoZone Park. You have to climb up some metal steps to get into the stands and then up several concrete steps to get to the food and drink. There is beer (2 free) if you partake. The course supposedly has a 6 hour time limit, but there were times in the results that were up to 7 hours. Overall very well organized, but I was not a big fan of the urban course with too many turns.

Organization and volunteer support was great. The crowd support was constant throughout and lots of great music along the course. Seeing families on the St.. Jude's campus was humbling and awe inspiring. Course was conducive to a fast time...though our weather was perfect running weather as well.
