Great Seaside Race
By Ryan Wrigley on May 28, 2016
The Atlantic City Marathon is one of my favorite marathons. The course is almost all flat with the exception of going up an overpass near the start. Much of the course has sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. There are a few miles that go south of Atlantic City giving you a broader sense of the Atlantic City area. The last miles of the course are on the Atlantic City boardwalk which is hands down the most comfortable surface I've ran on. The finisher medal is really good as is the the other race swag. My only complaint was the wind. This race will probably be cold especially at the start. But overall I'm happy I got to run this race.

Atlantic City Marathon- the Monopoly Game Marathon
By Yvette "8-Mile" Powell on October 24, 2016
The Atlantic City Marathon, the 3rd oldest continuous marathon in the US (behind Boston and Yonkers) is a blast. It was extremely windy in 2016, but it did help keep the heat away and the temperatures were perfect for running. It is a little hilly in the beginning as you run on the expressway, but once you get to the Boardwalk, it is flat the rest of the way. It is a little lappy (2 laps through Margate and Ventor City- Marvin Gardens, anyone?), but you get to see Lucy the Elephant a few times which is a nice touch, in addition to Absecom Lighthouse, the King Neptune statue, and of course, all of your favorite Monopoly board game properties such as Atlantic Ave., Kentucky Avenue, and Park Place.

Good New Jersey Marathon
By Brian K Wright on July 10, 2022
Pick-up was disorganized. Long waiting line to pickup bib, shirts, and pins. Not sure why it was held in bar out on beach instead of in the casino or a courtyard near the finish line. The first half was around Atlantic City and included a mix of highway, boardwalk, casino service roads, and local neighborhoods. Second half took out out to a variety of neighborhoods to the south with limited shade. The last few miles on the boardwalk were not fun with lots of residents and visitors enjoying warm weather and not paying attention to runners. Good dedicated volunteers. Nice finish line area protected from wind.

No frills but well-managed race
By Jared Levine on October 31, 2024
Good volunteer support on course, well-marked with good traffic control. Several mile markers are poorly positioned (one confusingly so). Post-race food/drink is pretty good.

Great Lowkey Marathon
By Roman Kastin on October 31, 2021
Marathon runners start with half marathon crowd and run together for 11 miles until the half marathon turn around on the boardwalk. I know it bothers some people to have two distances running together but it wasn't a problem for me as it didn't feel crowded the entire time. Course support is great, with water stops every 2 miles or so. There were honey stinger gel at mile 7 and mile 15. I ran with 3:25 pacer, who was the fastest pacer provided by AC marathon so if you need one faster than that then it maybe an issue. About 8 miles of the marathon is spent on the boardwalk while the remainder runs through neigborhoods, streets, roads, freeways and even through a tunnel. With few exceptions it is a very flat marathon, offering a cool medal with Absecon Lighthouse with a perpetually blinking light. Parking isn't an issue but you will have to pay for it unless you are staying at a nearby hotel. My one complaint is that the volunteers at the finish cut me off at one gatorade. Really?

Atlantic City

Pick-up was just disorganized: Long waiting for the Bib pickup, and another long waiting for the shirts/pins.
The last few miles were not fun: Running on the boardwalk (hard/un-even) with other visitors/walkers...
Otherwise, kudos to dedicated volunteers.
Great beer and musics at the beach bar!
Easy hotels/parkings.

Atlantic City Marathon
By Chung Siedlecki on October 28, 2018
I really enjoyed running in the Atlantic Coty Board Walk. The support along the way was nice. The RD kept the course open until the last person finished even though there was a note for this race that the time limit to complete the 26.2 miles was 6:30.

The good and the bad
By Jan-Al Robinson on October 30, 2017
Overall this was a nice race but apparently I hit a very hot year for it. There is no shade on this course and you will bake if it is a hot year. They really need to have an earlier start time (started at 8:00 am) to take advantage of pre-sun time. We were also disappointed that there were two portajohns for that many participants. My other advice is be very careful where you book your hotel. We couldn't even stay in our first one it was so bad (Quality Inn Flamingo). I would go with a race approved hotel instead of trying to find your own if you stay near the startline!

Great Marathon!
By Patty Powell on October 29, 2017
This marathon was well organized, well supported and a really nice, mostly flat course. I was pleasantly surprised at how pretty the course was. Running on the boardwalk was great (not as much pounding on the joints), although there was no shade, so when we got on the roads, and got to run in the shade, it was a nice break. The expo was small put very good! The medal is fantastic!

A.C. Marathon 2017
By Angie Lynch on October 29, 2017
I really enjoyed this marathon EXCEPT for some reason they didn't let anyone in the corrals until 5 minutes before the start. Everyone was really confused but after that snafu the course was great. Several miles are along the boardwalk which later in the race there was quite a bit of pedestrian traffic but people generally moved out of the way. Great volunteers, plenty of porta potties, water stations and GU stops. But the best was finishing and then taking off your running shoes and going into the ocean! The medal was a large metal seashell and the shirt is cute.

Atlantic City Marathon

This is a small and nice race. The expo, start and end of the race is easy to get to. If you are staying off the boardwalk, they gave you a $5 parking discount so you can still park at the expo. The race itself has enough hydration station and friendly volunteers. Expo is very small so so don’t expect to buy anything really but there is a outlet close by. I wish they block of some parts of the boardwalk for runners so people are not just walking into you and there are not a long of crowd support.

Great Course!
By Jawn "Marathawn Jawn" Angus on October 24, 2017
Atlantic City is a great marathon. Nice, flat course. A couple hills during the first 5k, and you run through a tunnel during mile 2. This race is wonderful and I would definitely recommend it for a NJ race! The only downfalls is that Atlantic City isn't the easiest place to travel to (2hr drive from Newark Airport), and they do not close the boardwalk, so you have to zig-zag around oblivious bystanders that are wandering around on the boardwalk (I took one star away because of this). They give you free race photos though - which is something I wish more races would start doing! Plenty of parking, and expo is easy to get to!

Windy as hell this year, but a great marathon
By Seth "Fun Fact" Kramer on December 19, 2016
Flat save a few hops on overpasses at the beginning, and a nice little stretch on the boardwalk a couple times. It's like running the Monopoly board.

Well organized event
By Matthew Perkins on October 28, 2016
A great way to see Atlantic city. Mostly flat course (a couple of over passes and ramps onto boardwalk) and amazing running on the boardwalk. The Out and Back loop was windy though. Small Expo in Bally's hotel and casino (and the casino provided a great place to shelter from the wind before the start). Good finish line festival with free beer and food from local restaurants / cafes.
