Big city marathoning in the capital of Latin America

It's a flat, big city road marathon through Miami. Starting at American Airlines Arena, head out past the cruise ships, swing by the clubs in SoBe, across the Venetian to downtown. Lose the Half Marathoners and grab a popsicle from Maniac Ambadassador Heather Schry before swinging under the Rickenbacher causeway, past Viscaya Gardens into Coconut Grove and covet some of their brunch. Wrap it all up by going downtown and meet your friends in Bayfront Park. Miami was my first, and I'll always love her, even if I've never done particularly well here.

Great marathon and well-oiled machine. The expo site apparently changes each year and it was difficult to get to this year. The race itself stated late due to police clearances but the marathon seems very well organized.

Miami not just hype

Despite it being an overly hot and humid day (as is typical, apparently), they did a great job. While the setup for the starting corrals is confusing for first-timers, it worked well. TONS of very long water stops were very well-stocked. Much of the course was surprisingly shaded, save for about Mile 15-16. Great post-race. Somewhat confusing getting to bag check (given post-race brain fog) without signs.

Great race route updates - chaos in the corrals at start

This was my fifth time running the Miami Marathon. I like the changes that were made to the second half of the race course. The roads are pretty much the same, but now the out and back to the Biscayne Causeway happen on the way out to Coconut Grove instead of on the way to the finish. This change allowed us to get that part done earlier before the sun gets hotter and then to run on shadier roads coming back to the finish. The bad part was the starting corral. I tried to get to my corral in plenty of time, but many of us were stuck outside of the corral fence. Someone opened the fence and a HUGE crowd crush ensued. I was very afraid - not the best way to start the race. Other larger races handle this MUCH more effectively. Miami Marathon needs to address this before someone gets hurt.

Well organized

If you like large running events, this fits the bill. Sign up early as this race sells out and I ended up on a waitlist and got in about 2 months before the race. There were mostly half marathoners on the course until the split at the half which made it very crowded initially. Except at Mile 2, there was a water station at every mile which was great since it was a hot and humid day (72 degrees at the start). The first half was nice with the sunrise in view, the 2nd half was okay. Signage on the course was great (and timing units were at every 5K), but at the start and finish it was a bit lacking as to where gear check was. The expo was a good size, but the post race was a little disappointing as the beer garden ran out of cups by the time I arrived. Free photo were a nice touch and the pasta carboload was nice- you don’t see this too often these days and even though it was just 3 types of pasta and 3 types of salad, it was fun meeting other runners.

Kind of tired of Virtual Races

Registered for this marathon pre-covid, held out hope for a while, finally they went virtual, very nice medals. Already registered for 2022, hopefully this is in-person. Really looking forward to running over the beautiful causeway and through downtown. I know it has great scenery as I have been to Miami many times, but never ran it.

Loved this race... the expo the hotel the cultural diversity the smells of the amazing colognes .. not joking he best smelling Marathon I’ve ever run!
Only con would be the amount of trash from the post race food which was a shame as the thought was to have healthy food packed compact etc.. but the food was inedible .. all soggy and tainted with apple.. bit of a shame. I really just wanted a bagel..

I always do it and will always be there for the Marathon. But the race should be called Miami Half Marathon, organization focus mostly in half the distance.

Was my first marathon years ago, still love it

Your quintessential big city marathon in Florida. 20k+ participants, great support, it can be hot even in January. It can also be cold. See the Grove, Winwood, Little Havana, Little Haiti, Miami Beach, the causeways, etc. On course food includes my favorite pineapple (thank you Baptist Health). After race party is always a good time, beer, rice and beans, beer, chocolate milk, beer, and did I mention beer? Pack sunscreen.

This was a great race. See more of Miami than you'd ever do on a vacation there. Great aid stations and volunteers. Highly recommend! It was my MM qualifier too!

We ran Miami Marathon last year 2015! It was a nice race. Expo is nice. Temp in the early morning is cool. But, it gets warm in mid-morning.
