Start and finish in the Fargo dome, if there is bad weather you are not in it waiting to start or instantly cold when you finish because you have immediate access to your drop bags. Great shirt, medal, and the bag they give you for a drop bag is also nice enough to use for other races. Course is flat and fast with great volunteers at the aid stations.

First time for Fargo, and an amazing experience. Of course, weather was perfect, 40's and overcast, but start and finish in the Fargodome was very nice. Transportation shuttles from hotels around the city was great, no waiting either direction. Organization was impeccable, UPS bag drop, awesome Under Armor bags, plenty of water and power aid along course, great volunteers. Beautiful flat course, nice residential neighborhoods, long run along river, through 3 gorgeous college campuses. I'm coming back next year!

I highly enjoyed the race. Stayed in the dorms which was very close and convenient for the Expo/Start/Finish and even the airport. There was also a bike rental right outside that I used to stay limber after the race and explore the "downtown" area. Course was relatively flat and there was a lot of community support from residences coming out to watch in their front yards-which was great since it was unseasonably warm and a lot of them had their hoses out for us. My one "complaint" would be to have the race start earlier, I enjoyed that they had a staggered start but an extra half hour before the heat would have been great!

Even though the weather wasn’t great his was a great race.
It was extremely well organized. The indoor start and finish were very helpful and the food and band afterward were great. The course was very well marked and the volunteers were out in force.
I would definitely recommend it.

Best host hotel catering to runners, with bananas, power bars, and water provided pre and post race days. True marathon with appropriately place timing strips. Great energy along the course. Well done!

Love this race. Its a nice small-medium size. Packet picketup was easy with just enough of an expo. The indoor start and finish in the fargodome make parking so easy, and its amazing to be warm and dry no matter what the weather. The course is flat and fast. Lots of turns but still a total PR course. Fun town to spend the weekend in, great crowds for a race this size and everyone in town seemed supportive and proud of the race.

We had a family health emergency early in the year required me to drop from the full to the half. The race director was very accommodating as we arranged a team event for my spouse that had open heart surgery in February. My spouse walked the 5k with the team and the rest of ran the half the next day. The course was amazing and the crowd support was terrific. Very well organized. We'll definitely go back to complete the full!

Fast and Fun! the course offers everything - downtown, neighborhoods with friendly folks cheering, park trails, variety of music, through university campus, by the Fargo theatre. Came all the way from Texas to run it- it did not disappoint!

Small Town Race, Big Hearts from Locals!

Mark Knutson (the founder) died last year, so this was the first year without him. Additionally, there were flooding issues in the days prior to the marathon, so the course had to be altered a bit at the last minute. Despite these issues, I felt like the RD, volunteers, and management did a great job to set up the races.
It was on the warm side, but we mainly ran in the shade in the suburbs. Since we mainly ran in the suburbs, I felt like the scenery was gorgeous and beautiful. Lots of people came out to support us and I felt welcomed in this town. On the plus side, it was like 99% flat with minor hills (less than 200 ft elevation gain). I did much better than I thought! This is my 3rd fastest marathon!
My biggest complaint was that there were times when the full, half, and 10K runners clashed with each other, so that was hard to navigate a bit. Overall, I had a great time!

Great, could be better

The course was great, I loved the route we took and the late start meant the weather was 60s and sunny all the way through. The expo was easy and parking/getting to the race day off was crazy easy and stress-free. My biggest gripe was that none of the water stops had any typ of snacks, minus one later Gu stop. Other than that no fruit, candy, nuts or anything.
Be aware that food in Fargo shuts down almost citywide by 11pm so if you're a night owl like me even most pubs closed their kitchens at 10-11pm.

It obviously helped that the weather was perfect!! I was thoroughly impressed with how well organized everything was from packet pick up until the end of the race. The race started and finished in the Fargodome so there was no need for throw away warm up clothes. Gear check was right there on the dome floor. Lots of friendly and helpful volunteers! I parked at the mall and took the shuttle to the dome. There was no wait to get there or back. The course was flat and fast. Spectators along the course were energetic and friendly. A lot of race parties in the residential areas. No tracking app; just a couple of text alerts at a couple of check points. Great race!

Everything was great. Expo was nice size and in Fargodome. Race started in Fargodome which was good because it was in the 30s outside. The community really came out and supported the race with well stocked aid stations. The town had issues with flooding so they had to change the course a couple times but was well marked and accurate. If you need N Dakota I recommend.

Nice Course, Great Volunteers

Nice starting and finishing in the Fargodome, enjoyed the many residential areas and parks this course ran through. Bonus being able to run through a portion of downtown as well. The course was well supported with aid stations and volunteers. This race had a lot of heart.
Knock one star off for running out of beer for the back of packers. If anyone needs a beer after a marathon, it is us.

By Jason Short on October 2, 2021
Enjoyed having the Fargo Dome as the start/finish and not having to stand out in the cold. My first half, I raced, but with more races coming and a poor training summer, I backed off and just fought through the second half. Great race weather and plenty of shady trees made the course even more enjoyable than expected. Only drawback was that they didn't have enough beer for the marathoners when they finished.

Great event, course, and support

Without a doubt one of my favorite marathons. Very nicely organized, excellent support from the community, and a “fast” course for runners. Starting and ending in the Fargodome means no waiting in potentially cold, windy, or wet weather to start or as you recover or meet up with others after the race.

Back of the Pack Fargo
By Lorri Fechtman on September 26, 2021
By Lorri Fechtman on September 26, 2021
The Fargo Marathon was an unexpected surprise. My expectations for North Dakota were embarrassing low and this race exceed expectations. The start/finish in the FargoDome was an interesting twist. Depending on your COVID comfort, the start could be uncomfortable for some. It was a mass start inside with no mask requirement. The race course is flat, beautiful, and well organized. From the back of the pack perspective, there were a few things to note. I finished in 6 hours. The course limit is 7. On the back half of the race, bands were breaking down as we went by or gone completely. The beer and Sandy's Donuts had run out by the time we finished. This was true of people that finished around the 4 hour mark as well. I was very excited to get both. Overall, I would highly recommend this race to anyone going for 50 states and needs North Dakota. The charm of the experience is Fargo itself. Great restaurants, breweries, and boutiques.

Somethings done really well but not the best experience

Fargo gets a lot of things really right. Love the start and finish in the Fargo Dome and the attention to detail. I also love the fact it is basically a week long event if you participate in everything they offer. The one epic fail had to do with the challenge medal you could receive by doing the 5k the night before. I do not recommend it unless they figure out how to get people out of the parking lots better. We spent hours just trying to get out of the lots and there was no one directing traffic so it was a cluster f#@k!! Hard to get out of there so late at night because of the nightmare parking situation and then have to get up super early the next morning. If you are going to do it, pay the money and stay at a hotel within walking distance. Also, just a heads up, Fargo is not a town filled with things to see and do. You pretty much are just coming for the race and that is it. The weather can be super iffy as we had it really bad this year and I hear that tends to be the norm.

Great race! It was nice that 10k, half were not running in same direction as the full. Great support too just not a fan of Powerade. I prefer Gatorade. The expo was just ok and not a fan of the shirt, prefer dry fit material.

This is a great marathon for folks wanting a BQ. Flat, fast course with lots of support on the course including bands every mile or so. Starting and ending inside the Fargodome was fantastic! Even though it rained the entire race, it was so nice to be dry and warm while we waited for the start and for the spectators after we finished. The expo was nice, we had a great time walking around the downtown area, (great restaurants and breweries) and visiting local museums. No negatives!

Despite the rain, wind and cold this year, I really enjoyed the Fargo Marathon. The course goes through a lot of neighborhoods and some residents were in their garages or on their driveways playing music and cheering us on. There were also a ton of bands and DJs, especially in the second half which really helped me get through those later miles. I plan to run this one again.

A very well run race with many enthusiastic volunteers. , the course had many twists and turns through the neighborhoods of Fargo, and while most turns were well marked and manned by volunteers, some were not, and at least twice I had to stop and look to decide which way to turn.

The best part of the Fargo Marathon is the Fargodome venue where the events start and finish. The Fargodome is a comfortable, spacious place to gather before the marathon. Seeing the Fargodome as one approaches the end of the marathon is an exciting view. The opportunity to use the showers before heading back to the airport was a welcome feature of the event. The Fargo Marathon is popular with the 50 States Marathon Club members which held a quarterly reunion in 2019.

Enjoyed the race from expo to finish! Nice, small expo with fast packet pick up, well organized race, nice course, great support from people along the course and very nice to start and finish inside the Fargo Dome! Downtown Fargo had neat shops and restaurants to enjoy. DIdn't love the ugly hoodie we got as the race shirt, but it is at least comfortable!

By Corey Hlavacek on May 26, 2018
This race is now onw of my favorites. It is well organized, from the start to finish, it seems that much of the Fargo community backs the race. The start and finish is in the Fargo dome which makes logistics pretty simple - if you show up early, parking is a snap, bathroom lines are short, and you don't have to worry about being cold pre-race or searching for gear check after a race. The course is flat with only a few ups and downs to go river banks or under railroad underpasses. The medals are always awesome and you get something special if you run both Friday night and Saturday.

Book room/airbnb early as capacity fills quickly. 7am sharp race start in Dome where u stay dry & warm using real toilets. Bag check nice UA drawstring satch. Runners receive free tkt 2 music/bar venue postrace fun where unpublicized pub crawl (no 1 knew about it, no 1 talked about it in ‘18), netted pub crawl medal @ the OB.
