Hard to fit it all in 1000 character maximum
By JOSEPH on August 1, 2017
My review is more about the organization, crowd support this race has. Around mile 9-10 the neighborhood has a block party just for us.They have jello shoots,Fireball gummy bears, and more. All along the course the awesome citizens of Tulsa cheer you on and have their own block parties and shots for the runners. The race has Gatorade and water at ever stop.At mile 20 the water stops are every mile.Tulsa has set the standard in my book for race supports from the locals. The swag is awesome,If you run the double 5k,full/half you'll get a shirt and a jacket. Being MM/HF you will get a special RT66 Marathon club medal,if you choose to do the world's shortest ultra marathon,The Center of the Universe Detour ads .3 miles and you'll get a special coin saying you did the detour. Before and after MM/HF have a special VIP section known as Maniac Corner where we take a before race picture of all the members. After race VIP area has private food and drinks for MM/HF.See you at RT66 Marathon in November.

One of the best!
By James "Captain Hook" Hooko on April 30, 2017
Great route that challenges as it is pretty hilly but is scenic running through nice neighborhoods, downtown Tulsa, along the river and thru TU campus. . Has been recognized a number of times as having the best finisher medals. Offers special Half Fanatic, Marathon Maniac and 50 State finisher medals as well as a "Maniac Corner" that offers bag check, food and beer for all Fanatics and Maniacs. 5K and fun run on Saturday and offers a special award for doing both the 5K and full.

very good race
By Matt Petty on January 1, 2018
good support; nice bling & MM has a great finisher test, thanks
race is hilly (I ran the half); don't expect a PR, but temps are excellent, usually start is around freezing

Great marathon for my 50th state.
By Michael Shiach on November 30, 2017
Maniac Corner gives you a taste of being elite. Nice course with an enthusiastic city supporting you. A lot of not steep hills do become noticeable and can take a toll, but no individual hill is that memorable. I really did like this marathon and felt that I was lucky that it turned out to be my 50th marathon state. If you aren't too concerned with your time, the detour to the Center of the Universe is a fun novelty.

Extremely Well Organized Marathon
By Brian K Wright on November 27, 2017
The race organization especially took care of the Maniacs, Fanatics, and 50 Staters by having private areas at the start and finish. The expo was medium sized with a good mix of vendors and local organizations. The start was divided in to four corrals based on time making for a quick start for everyone - though it did cause some confusion with the time shown on clocks around the course. The first half of the course was generally rolling, but the second half of the course was hilly. There were water stops with water and Gatorade roughly every two miles. There were only two drawbacks from my perspective. The first was the hilly second half of the course. I honestly was not expecting it and I did not see it on the elevation chart. The second was the Route 66 theme not extending far enough. It only extended to the medals and the signage. I would have loved to have a picture of me on the course with the Route 66 bridge in the background.

Tulsa Rt 66 Marathon
By Stephen Abernathy on December 2, 2024
As always, this was a great race. Well organized from expo to finish line. I would like to see more volunteers at the hydration stations to pass out cups but I understand it’s not always possible. This race is always on my calendar.

One of my favorite races
By Carrie Walling on December 1, 2024
Route 66 is one of my most favorite races. It was my first time to do the full since they changed the course. It was a hot and windy day, and the crowds down Brookside were more sparse than usual, but overall a fantastic day.

Route 66 - Red Carpet
By Erik McPherson on November 28, 2022
The way this site rolls out the red carpet to MM and HF is just amazing. I'm so glad this is my hometown marathon! I'll continue to rock this Route every single year.

2022 Route 66 was fun
By James Lehman on November 27, 2022
Not a negative moment throughout the Route 66 weekend in 2022 from expo to race. The expo and event organization was top-notch as usual, the weather was cooperative, even fantastic, and the membership energy inside the Maniac tent prior to the start was purely positive. Soft tacos after the finish line hit the hunger zone well. Thank you for organizing the Maniac Corner at Route 66. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Best ever
By ED PHILLIPS on November 27, 2022
The hospitality was great, the expo was good wish there was more vendors. Everyone was vey friendly.

The route change I thought was good, I liked the section on river parks, it allowed me to see others as we ran. When the halfer’s split off it didn’t seem like the field was empty.

Amazing as Always

Route 66 Marathon
By Jessica Cummings on December 1, 2021
Awesome race with tons of support and block parties! The route is a little difficult with hills. Had a hard time finding parking for the marathon start and ended up with a ticket for parking in a lot that appeared to be available. The expo was ok, nothing too exciting, and medals/detour coins didn't make it in time for the race. We were able to swap finisher shirts for the right size, which is always a plus. Overall great experience.

Route 66
By Iron Dave on November 29, 2021
This was a spur of the moment, bucket list race. Pleasantly surprised with the big city/small town feel to it. People/volunteers were so friendly. Crowd support along the course was fantastic and fun. Marathon Maniac support at both the Start line and Finish line were great! Course itself was a challenging rolling course. I felt like I was running uphill the whole way and yet enjoying it.

Great race with crowd support
By Paul Richard Vining on November 29, 2021
It was a little chilly too start, overcast skies, but great crowd support really makes this race. I think it was about 51 and windy downtown when we started. The race winds around downtown before heading to the suburbs, then returning downtown to let the half marathoners finish. I continued onward, doing another loop through a few different neighborhoods, doing the extra ultra loop, then finishing strong. Sadly medals did not arrive in time. I think I had 7 cups of beer and 1 fireball shot during the race, was the motivation I needed :)

Tulsa good time
By Lisa Pass on November 28, 2021
Tulsa is an amazing race. People are so nice and accommodating. The hotels gave everyone a 3PM check out. it is hilly, but fun.

Run The Route!
By Michael Krecik on November 28, 2021
It was a great race! Support along the route was good. The pre race tent was a great plus but the post race tent and the food was awesome. The course needs to be mentioned. It has rolling hills for most of the race so be prepared. I would definitely recommend this one.

Well organized and supported race. Crowd support and block parties were truly awesome, compensated for the hilly routes.

Route 66 Kicks
By Michelle Hood on December 9, 2018
My favorite marathon of the year. Route 66 has a well organized expo with a good selection of vendors, the Maniac pre-race and post race areas are such a blessing to have and the race itself is well supported. Tulsa really embraces this race from start to finish which makes running all the more fun.

All the drinks, all the friends, and all the miles. You feel fabulous running the streets of Tulsa. My all time favorite race.

Well Organized - Great Local Support - Pretty Course
By Jon Norcross on November 25, 2018
Kudos to Tulsa for the great organization of this race. The start corrals were well planned and there was no problem figuring out where to enter. The Maniac tent was a big plus as it kept us out of the (cold) wind. Only complaint was there was no lighting inside the tent either pre-race or post-race...but at least it was covered and out of the wind!!!

I was grateful for the pork tacos at Maniac corner, otherwise the post race food would have been bananas and pizza. Great location for Maniacs!

2018 Route 66 Marathon
By Corey Hlavacek on November 25, 2018
This is the 3rd time I have run RT66. RT66 offers a Sat-Sun challenge. This year the challenge reward was a coin - prior years it was a pint glass.

Pre-race communications were provided at appropriate intervals. The expo was well attended by vendors & other races. The 5k shirt was a tshirt type hoodie and the Marathon shirt was a jacket.

The start corrals were well marked & assignments enforced. There was a private pre-race gathering area for Maniacs. The tent could have been bigger & heated. Be forewarned, it’s not a PR course. There are many large hills in the 2nd half - particularly leading up to the U of Tulsa.

Post race this year was disappointing. The general food was cold pizza. Unlike prior years the Maniacs food was, by the time I reached it, soggy chicken tacos. I know post race food is hard to get right, but I would recommend the race org take another look at this.

Minus three stars for the hilly course and weak post race food experience.

Route 66 is always a great run
By Sam Pfanstiel on November 25, 2018
Route 66 is a great race through downtown and midtown Tulsa. The entire event is well-managed, from registration to expo to starting line, water stops, relay exchanges, finish line, and afterparty. This year was a bit of a disappointment with no live music at the afterparty, but it was right at freezing, so that's to be expected, I suppose. The Center of the Universe Detour was great, although the Center of the Universe itself has lost some of its excitement (if you don't know what you're looking for, you'll miss it -- Route 66 should really play up the spot more, including explaining to out-of-towners its "significance"). This was my seventh Route 66 Marathon, and even though I live in Denver now, I look forward to it every year.

Route 66
By John Wallace on November 25, 2018
For being as cold as it was, The Maniac tent was a excellent go to place. The bathrooms were the right touch to add to it. Concrete and hills were not my friend but I finished the run with about 30 seconds to spare. My biggest complaint would be to start dismantling the course when the time limits end, not before people under the time limit are still on the course. I also need to find out who to contact for medals. The tents were empty and everyone gone and I did not get my Marathon Maniac medal for the full marathon from the MM tent. My wife doing the half marathon got hers from the Maniac tent, but got the wrong medal for her finish. She did not get the Half Fanatic Route 66 medal. Also closed and people gone was the spot where they were to be giving out the doubler coin.

Best Race ever
By Michael Hall on November 25, 2018
Best communications, Best expo went two days, best volunteers, excellent pre and post race. Corals that were enforced entry. Really enjoyed the race. Bling the best, full zip jacket, medal spectacular.

Simply the Best!
By Debby Burkart Cotch on November 25, 2018
There is no better atmosphere at a race! The crowds and neighborhoods make this race. I've done the half 4 or 5 times and finally signed up for the full as a celebratory lap after reaching Iridium this year. I was worried about the 2nd half being not so populated and boring due to the known fun in the first half. NOT TRUE! The party people are on the 2nd half. There was no shortage of beer, Fireball and jello shots! We had an absolute blast and loved the Center of the Universe detour. Even with a LOT of drinking and the detour, we finished under 5 hours (typically a 4:30-4:40 finisher). The Maniac perks at this race are also the best. Pre race tent and private area for porta-potties and the post race tent! The course has HILLS and you're probably not getting a PR here, but have a shot or two and you won't care!

great support for Maniacs and Fanatics. Hilly course with some roads that could use some resurfacing.

Great race. I got a new marathon PR with it even with extra mileage
By Carla Simon on November 25, 2018
I know some people for some reason did not like this race because they thought there wasn't enough crowd support or expectations were not what they thought. I thought this was a great race, maybe the cold weather got some people grumpy but I loved it, I race good in cold weather. Plus there was good crowd support to me and lots of runners behind and ahead of me which having that at all times helped keep me going and the great aid stations. I think all of that kept my mind motivated which helped me gain a new marathon PR even with doing the extra smallest ultra detour thing the race had.

By Gary Medley on November 25, 2018
Bummed that I came down with a serious sinus infection the day before the run, and at the age of 62, running in that brutal cold would have not been smart (well, when are maniacs ever smart - :-)) Anyway, my best friend and running buddy says that she really enjoyed the race and you guys were awesome. Thanks for choosing this race as one you are at.

Great but some problems
By Sandy Stiner on November 25, 2018
The race itself was good and I enjoyed it. However the swag jacket ran at least two sizes too small. I typically get a women’s large and needed an XXL. I was lucky and got an exchange but they ran out. Also the only food at the end of the race for marathoner (I finished in 6:29) was cold pizza. Not even a banana! Thank goodness the Marathon Maniacs had food!

Good but not great
By Jason Mell on November 25, 2018
Post race was a little light. The run itself was pretty good.

The Mother Road race
By Ann Hegstrom on November 25, 2018
This is a must do race! Yes, the course can be challenging, but even with cold and windy weather, there’s great crowd support and the block parties are awesome!

This marathon had great support throughout the route! Love the neighborhood support!

Love Route 66 Marathon
By Aaron McColloch on December 2, 2017
Not a fast or easy course. But where's the fun in easy?! It's hilly but there is so much crowd support on the course, it's worth it. You see a LOT of Tulsa. My favorite part is around mile 6 along Brookside. Stationary bikes are brought out and supporters are encouraged to jump on a bike for a spin class. Music blaring and those people are shouting at runners. Lots of aid stations. Great medal and race swag. Hard to beat this race.

Fantastic race all around
By Sam Friedman on November 28, 2017
I finished my 50th state at the Route 66 Marathon and was greeted by many maniacs along the course.
I began the race worried if I could finish, if I might have to walk half the race, or if I would be in terrible pain the whole way. To my vast surprise, I ran the race very well and had consistent mobility for all 26.2 miles of rolling hills. As expected I began to really tire around mile 17, but was able to push ahead and keep moving those last few very slow miles. I stopped for very much appreciated beer around mile 21 and at mile 25 at the detour to the Center of the Universe. I loved the spectators (although a bit sparse), bands, aid stations, and other participants! The finish was such a treat, I grabbed my favorite post race beverage, Pepsi (or Coke)! I was so thrilled to see my welcoming party as well at the finish line. The Maniacs and 50-state club had an exclusive VIP tent where we enjoyed more beer, pulled-pork sandwiches and Caesar salad.

Wonderful fan support. Nice seeing lots of Maniacs. I hated the very hilly course. I don’t think I would run it again.

Route 66 Maniac Review
By Jeffrey 'Beer Snob' Wagner on November 27, 2017
Probably the best Maniac experience of all the races I have done.
This is a local race for me and love the course, despite the hills. The first half is easier with fewer hills but a somewhat tough climb starting at 11.5 miles for about 3/4 mile. Crowd support is good to this point especially around Cascia Hall HS. Half marathoners split off at about 12.5 miles and the fun begins for the marathoners with many more hills, mostly long, shallow climbs. Crowd support is better overall on the 2nd half though it thins out considerably around mile 23. Center of the Universe detour is fun and recommended.

Maniac corner is awesome for gathering and meeting up with old friends and new friends. Weather wasn't a factor this year but it was still nice to have a wind break in the Maniac tent and the "reserved" port-o-lets. Maniac/Fanatic finish line area was once again a great place to hang out post race and watch runners finishing.

Manics / Fanatics get the royal treatment
By Eckhard Schumann on November 27, 2017
This race is highly recommended. All the things one would want from a marathon is there (route, organization, expo, price, etc.), but the best thing is the royal treatment for Manics / Fanatics. All kinds of specials for us at the start and finish makes this a great race for our club runners.

It was a 26.5 mile party.
By Lauren Abel on November 26, 2017
The Route 66 marathon with the Center of the Universe .3 mile detour was so much fun! The neighbors in the various neighborhoods we ran through came out and supported the runners with food and booze stops, in addition to the aid stops provided by the race. The race is well organized, the expo was great, the swag is fabulous and so are the medals. They treat the Maniacs like VIPs and we have our own private tent with food and portalets before and after the race, as well as our own special ribbons on our finishers medals. The 5k the day before the race was fun too. When you do the double and the Detour, you get a pub glass and a very cool, high-end coin. I loved everything about this race and the entire experience. I would do this race again!

Route 66
By Leslie Darden on November 26, 2017
Was an awesome race! Great cheer stations and water stations! The cheer stations thinned out towards the end. I loved being able to do the ultra so cool..I wish they post results differently though when you choose to do the extra. On final it doesn't say anything about the ultra. I missed the manaic pic I guess I missed where the time was Posted got there right after. But the after party was great! Race it self gives u pizza?? Then u have private party and get special medal for MM! So awesome!! Going under the route 66 sign was cool, rolling hills course for sure! The fall trees in the neighborhoods were so pretty and I enjoyed the college scenery.

Drinking town with running problem
By Jay Gibson on November 26, 2017
26.5 miles of rolling hills. Great crowd support lots of jello shots, beer stations and other adult drunks along the course. Highlyu recommend this race. Great race jacket and expo was well laid out. 26.5 is from doing the center of the universe detour if u do t do it u will regret it, the coin is really cool.

Tulsa is awesome
By Amy Lambert on November 26, 2017
I love this race. Tulsa has become a town with so much character. Every year we see new shops, and restaurants. The community is so supportive of Route 66 it is really a party on the pavement. Great neighborhoods too.
The maniac and half fanatic support is simply icing on the cake.
