Well-supported Race!
By Eric Tunquist on September 7, 2024
Excellent race! Scenic course, well-organized, friendly volunteers, and nice medal! The course has a generous net downhill. While the first half is nicely shaded, beware the second half is mostly in the sunshine!

Downhill!
By Missy Luton on September 12, 2021
Some pretty sharp downhill sections, so be prepared. Part of the course is a well graded trail, which wasn't an issue other than it was lightly raining and made for some dirty shoes and legs. Route itself was beautiful with some great views of Lake Superior at times. It is a small town so spectators were rare. Well supported, no worries about water and aid stations being intact and easy to find. Lots of fun to be part of a small race.

LOVE this race

The RD is amazing. Works so hard to make sure things are done right. The course is beautiful. Net decent of 800 ft. Gentle downhills for a good part of the race means your pace is fast. One uphill and one downhill about mile 23 that is a bit challenging at that point in the race. It is one of the most beautiful race courses. I’m a bit biased because it’s my hometown. But it’s mostly on beautiful paved/gravel path then along the lakeshore and around Presque Isle Park and back and this year it ended at the Superior Dome. I believe it’s the second largest wooden dome in the world (they play football in there.) Marquette is a beautiful town on Lake Superior. Lots to do and see, great food and awesome microbrews. Sign up. You’ll be glad you did.

Marquette Marathon

Very shaded course. Ran mostly on an old rail track bed. A downhill run that is very gradual. Last few miles had some challenging hills. Good course

Braving the North

Two years ago I ran this in 80+ degrees. Saturday this year I ran it in 52 degrees with pelting rain. It took 24 minutes less.

The perfect place to experience true Pure Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
Great volunteers, well organized, Great shirts, great medals, great everything. To experience the Upper Pennisula,go do this race. It will soon be a favorite, like it is mine now.

Small race gorgeous course

I planned a once and done. But this is year two and i think i will be back next year. The whole race is on a multi use trail. Only bummer is bus or drive to start then run back to town. While i don't really like that. It is worth it. Marquette is a college town. The UP of Michigan is gorgeous this time of year. Last year was hot this year was perfect.
Oh and yummy burritos at the finish.
If you need cheering crowds this is not the race for you. But if you love to run through the woods with the occasional person to hand you water or electrolyte this race is perfect.

Marquette Marathon

First half is paved and crushed stone trail. The second half is Marquette which has uphill runs on Presque Isle and the finish. This event also was marred by heavy downpours and significant head winds which certainly were not under the control of the race committee. Beautiful area I'd love to explore more. Lots of trails.
