Beautiful Course
By Diana Lunsford on March 22, 2016
This course has some beautiful views and tree covered streets. Excellent course support and plenty of spectators to cheer you on to the finish. The finish line party has great food and plenty of LA beer. Affordable hotels within easy walking distance to the start/finish area and lots of fun restaurants in the area. I highly recommend this race.

Decent Race, Lot of Hype, Lots of Extras and You Pay For Them With High Registration Fee
By John "Terminator" Conner on January 24, 2016
Pretty well organized mid-sized race. After the first few miles, once you get off the LSU campus, the course is kinda boring thru some neighborhoods. A few out and back style areas that I hate. Nothing worse than running against people who are ahead of you. Spectators were pretty good. Post-race area was ok, with Cajun music, etc. If you want food, you better run fast. The food folks themselves all control when they are there, so they leave when they want to. With so many marathons scheduled this year, I don't run fast anymore to keep injury risk to a minimum. Needless to say wasn't much food left at the 5:30 point. You get a short sleeve shirt and drawstring backpack. They certainly want you to buy other merchandise.

Louisiana Marathon 2020 Baton Rouge
By Missy Luton on January 26, 2020
Can't say enough about how much I enjoyed the entire race weekend. I ran the 5k on Saturday and the full marathon Sunday. Both days had a great after party with real food and live music. To be honest, after most marathons I'm tired and ready to go, but I actually hung around at this one for a couple of hours and it was worth it! Jambalaya, beignets, beer. The marathon itself goes through LSU and some really pretty neighborhoods. The last long stretch from about mile 19 on wasn't very scenic, you had traffic on one side for part of it and very few spectators, but lots of good course support throughout. Really fast flat course except there's the one minor bridge near the end, it at least had a sign up encouraging the runners. In all, I highly recommend this one!

A party the entire course
By Deadsygurll on February 1, 2025
This course had plenty of organized support as well as popup support tables from the entire community. You never feel alone on course no matter your pace. The pace groups were led by one of the local running clubs that knew the course like the back of their hand and shared their wisdom along the way. Plus a little bonus (lagniappe as they call it) is the Finish Fest with local music talent and amazing food (With gluten-free and vegetarian options! This is huge for me because I always go hungry after races!)

Louisiana Marathon
By John Shangin on January 28, 2025
This is a great race. The promotion company is named Fresh Junkie. They put together this one and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon. There's plenty of after race food like Jumbolaya, Gumbo and King Cake There is a mailed bib option. There is a very good race expo at Raising Canes convention center. Its within walking distance from the race start. I suggest finding out which parking garages downtown are free before you go. Parking is available but if you don't find the free Galvez garage at North street and 6th, you must pay or try to find street parking. There is bag drop off available as well. Bring warm throw away clothes because it can be chilly. I chose to compete in the 5K on Saturday, so I could get the Deja Vu medal. If you compete in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon and the Louisiana Marathon, you get the Beach2 Bayou medal too.Have fun!

Party Course
By Ryan Haslauer on January 26, 2025
This was the first marathon I took it easy and the fast, flat nature of it led to a 3:35. Crowds and tables of giveaways on the course are amazing. Plus all the drink/food tickets for after. Great event.

Baton Rouge Didn’t disappoint
By Ilse Berube on January 22, 2023
Weather was perfect. More than enough water stops. Everyone was friendly. Didn’t feel like I went into the land of nowhere when we split off from the half marathoners. It was a little tough with the bridge at the end so try and remember to not go out too fast. I highly recommend this race. The bridge to bayou medals and the de ja vu (although I didn’t do this one)medals are a good incentive to get involved. I truly am blessed to have had the opportunity to do the 26.2 minute mass before the run.

Above average destination marathon race
By Steve Crawford on January 22, 2023
Race was supported well and the course had a good mix of out-n-back areas. The crowd support was great, and going around the lake was a nice visual retreat from the urban areas.

We arrived later in the afternoon to the Expo, and it was mostly empty an hour before it closed. Not sure how busy it was before this, but there was little to purchase when we arrived. (needed extra gels and electrolytes that I forgot to pack)

Overall, it was a good destination race. Lots oh hotel and food options within the start/finish area, and the post-race party area was decently setup.

Great race experience
By Eric DeBelly on January 19, 2023
This race is high on our list as a great marathon. I can not speak more highly about this one.

The course was gorgeous, starting and finishing downtown, running through the LSU campus and through some nice neighborhoods. No junk miles. The course was well supported and the crowds were great, even for us back of the packers. We had good weather, chilli mid 30's warming to mid 60's by the end, a really nice sunny day.

Highly recommend!

Loved the race

Great organization! Would be honored to participate in future events there!

Top notch race.
By Roger Bolton on January 23, 2022
60-something marathons, 36th state. This one was well organized, well supported at all aid stations, and showcased Baton Rouge with a fairly flat, scenic course. I highly preferred the course over the sameness of the Biloxi course. Substantial finishing medals, Beach to Bayou medal and OA group cutting boards to boot. Enjoyed the expo and the post race food and party atmosphere despite cold temps. The band rocked. Tenor sax player was a beast.

Fast Course, Great after race party
By Gwen Jacobson on January 23, 2022
This is a fast and scenic Boston certified course. Well organized and managed race. Post race party is excellent with gumbo, jambalaya and good beer and music. They are very generous with meal/drink tickets and didn't even really ask for them. You could eat and drink as much as you like! Definitely recommend.

Fun destination race
By Brad Stelflug on January 23, 2022
We traveled from Indiana to participate in this marathon and its festivities. We did the 5K on Saturday and enjoyed the festival afterward (bands, food, beer). The marathon was down on participants this year because of the weather and COVID but the residents who came out cheered us on. Having people cheer for us every half-mile really made this race fun. We enjoyed the festival again on Sunday (more bands, food, and beer). This weekend is very well organized in my opinion!

One of the Best Marathons around
By Michael Hart on January 23, 2022
Everything is great! New course is flat and beautiful with plenty of crowd support, water/aid stations, and police/first responders at EVERY intersection, even in the neighborhoods!

One of the best races around
By Michael Hart on January 23, 2022
The Expo was back. There was a new marathon course that is really beautiful and flat with lots of crowd support, aid stations, water stations, and there are Baton Rouge police/first responders at EVERY intersection including those in the neighborhoods. Finish festival has great music and food. Expo was a little small this year - COVID. Expect it to be back to normal next year.

Support and organization
By Arturo Magidin on January 27, 2020
This is the second time I've run the full marathon (I ran the half four times previously). My recollection from last year is that the full marathon course was better supported than last year: it didn't seem as empty, and there were plenty of water stations with plenty of people in them. The race is always well-organized, and this year was no exception. But they did seem to raise it up a notch with the support for the parts of the course that are in the full marathon and not the half, even though the number of runners drops considerably (916 runners in the full, 2035 in the half).

Top Notch Event!
By Jon Norcross on January 26, 2020
Everything is good about this race. It is about as flat and fast as you can expect for a course that runs around town. There are plenty of water stops -- about every 1.5 miles, the race shirt is AWESOME -- very soft fitted cotton short sleeve shirt, no cheap plastic, and post-race is the best I've seen EVER. Local restaurants provide the food, but it is portion controlled with tags on your bib so there is plenty of food for the later finishers and they always feature a great local brewery. We went all out and got the VIP which included the limited edition race poster and various other goodies. It also had entry to the post-race VIP area that included good food, beer, and massages -- as much as you can stomach after a marathon.

Highly recommend this one!
By Cesilie Garles on January 26, 2020
The course goes through a beautiful park and beautiful neighborhoods in addition to the LSU campus, which was great. Probably the most course support of any race I’ve ever run—water, Powerade and sometimes snacks at least every mile, sometimes multiple places in a mile. The crowd support was also consistent throughout the course. The course is mostly flat with some small rolling hills. The expo was small but the merchandise was excellent and the race tee was a really light, super soft cotton. The start was right on time and seamless—the corrals were easy to navigate and not too crowded.

Louisiana Marathon 2019
By Maureen Knepp on January 30, 2019
Logistically easy marathon: Stayed at host hotel and shuttle from airport and to local attractions. Baton Rouge very walkable to restaurants, bars, local historical buildings. Really liked the 26.2 min Mass held at 6am before the race. It was packed! warm and dry one block from start. Haven't seen that before. Temps chilly breeze 35 at the start, but warmed to 40's at end. Race course was beautiful. Make sure you see Mike the Tiger at LSU. Great course support. Neighborhoods set up their own tables with treats. After party was fun, plenty of beer, limited food at the end. If you haven't done Louisiana this is the race to do!

Nice course, excellent post-race party
By David Backeberg on January 28, 2019
Pretty course through LSU and Baton Rouge neighborhoods. Plenty of Spanish moss, y'all. Gumbo and beer afterwards, and music, and Capital City Produce had an awesome stand with free fresh fruit. A cupful of fresh kiwi really hit the spot. Volunteers were plentiful, and there were abundant official water stops, with more stops just put up by neighbors. Somebody helpfully had put out pickles: my favorite!

Great Fun and Great Race
By Michael Hall on January 27, 2019
This is a race I will do again. First Baton Rouge is a city where you can walk to most places. We stayed at the Belle across from the Expo. It was a better than average hotel. The expo was great and we saw a lot of our friends there. Race day morning was cold and everyone seemed to respect the coral self-placement. Frankly I worried some about that but after 1 1/2 miles we were spread out and running clear. It is a very scenic course and great Southern hospitality was present. I talked to a lot of people on the course and there were lots of spectators before the split. After the split it seemed like each block had a table with goodies. Then the finish and after party. They say the intend to have the best after and work hard with world class food and cold beer. Just the kind of place you desire to do again. State 11 for me.

Favorite Marathon
By Jennifer Massey on January 27, 2019
The Louisiana Marathon continues to be my favorite marathon. I missed the race last year and did the Houston marathon instead. That was a mistake I will not repeat. The course is well supported, not an over crowded race and best finish festival.

Cajun style!
By Steve "Marathon Freak" Walters on January 12, 2016
A top notch race! Very well organized. Great support. Nice course. Great post race food. All in all a must run event in the heart of Cajun Country!
